My latest 'project' has been collecting a ridiculous amount of things to ship to Liberia! I made a challenge on pledgebank.com called Undies4Liberia and so far almost 500 pairs of undies have been donated from mostly total strangers from as far away as Canada! I also discovered a website called FreeCycle and I've picked up donations from 4 people in my community so far. I've also been collecting sewing supplies, school supplies, hygiene items, and other things ever since I got back from Liberia, so I've got alot to work with!
A wonderful organization in Murfreesboro,TN called Service to Servants ships containers about 4 times a year to Monrovia. They are shipping a container on February 22nd, so I'll be putting everything on that container. It will take about 40 days to reach Monrovia, so it should arrive just after I do. I'm also packing things for John, a friend from church, who's already in Liberia, and I've just offered to pack things for my soon-to-be roomates/co-workers. The shipping seems to be pretty reasonable to me at $7 per cubic foot. I hope everything makes it to Liberia safe and sound!
In other news, my super-great-wonderful-fabulous friend Raquel is leaving for Liberia on Saturday to pick up her 4th adopted child!! I've never met her in person, but I'm somewhat convinced that if she lived nearby we'd be best friends.
Anyway, wish me luck with my attempt to strategically pack as many things as possible into one box. Thank God for space saver bags!
