AIDS Experience

Red Letters talks alot about the HIV/AIDS crisis. I've shared plenty of statistics with you, as well as our responsibility to not just sit by and watch. Here's an opportunity to see and experience AIDS...without buying a plane ticket! (It's the budget friendly experience!) And, I will say...I have walked through the World Vision AIDS Experience twice (waiting in line for more than an hour the second time around), and it is absolutely moving and fantastic! For me, it was the highlight of Urbana Conference '06.

If you're in the Atlanta area, the AIDS Experience will be at Heritage Christian Church off Redwine Road in Fayetteville August 15-24. Did I mention that it's free?!!

The exhibit is traveling all over the country, so if you're not in Atlanta, click here to find out if it's coming to your neck of the woods. And in case you're lazy...stops include CA, NC, PN, NY, IL, ND, MA, MN, IA and WA!!

I would recommend going through the experience, and then signing up on a later day to volunteer. The only way this thing happens is through people volunteering to man the experience. I also recommend that if the Experience is coming near you, that you make an effort to go...you will not regret it!

Ash, what is the experience and what do you do? Warren Barfield is doing a concert...but isn't J93.3 sponsoring it? Are you going to be volunteering all weekend?

The Experience is an interactive exhibit that uses audio, photography and objects to transport you to Africa. You get a personal headset and you are randomly assigned to step into the shoes of a real-life child in Africa that has been affected by HIV/AIDS. You literally walk through the child's life by following their journey--you find out about their country, life and family. You visit a local clinic, and you are tested for HIV. In the end, you find out what has happened to your child. And then there's a few really awesome things after that, but I won't spoil it.

Yes, Warren Barfield is doing a concert on the Friday (16th) at Heritage for the opening night.

I will not be volunteering until next week sometime.
